Private shuttle or shared shuttle — what the difference actually costs you

A shared shuttle splits one journey across several bookings. That lowers the price per head, but it carries a consequence the listing rarely spells out: your arrival time depends on the other passengers' addresses. If your destination comes last on the round, you arrive after several stops; if it comes first, you wait while everyone else is collected. Either way the schedule is predictable — just not by you.

A private shuttle reverses that. The vehicle runs for your booking alone, you set the departure time, and the route goes straight to your destination. The price is for the vehicle rather than per person, which is why the comparison improves with every extra traveller instead of getting worse. From three or four people onward, a private vehicle usually wins outright.

The second difference shows up when a flight is late. A shared vehicle cannot wait indefinitely for one delayed arrival without breaking every other booking on board — past a certain point it leaves without you, and you are standing in arrivals with your luggage. A private shuttle has no such competition: the driver tracks your flight and works from the actual landing time.

Shuttles for groups: when a second vehicle is needed

Capacity decides this, not headcount alone. Two numbers matter: how many seats a class has, and how many suitcases genuinely fit in the load space. The largest class in our fleet takes 8 passengers and 12 suitcases — so a group of six with two large cases each plus hand luggage exceeds it on bags, not on seats.

That is why larger groups are calculated rather than estimated. You enter passengers and pieces of luggage, and the booking form assembles the combination: one large vehicle, or two vehicles standing at the same place at the same time. Both come with a single fixed price, so the expense stays one invoice rather than several.

Tour groups, wedding parties and club trips are handled this way as standard. The one thing worth flagging in advance is oversized luggage: skis, golf bags, pushchairs, instruments or exhibition material change the vehicle choice more than an extra passenger does. Anything known beforehand is planned for; anything that appears at the terminal has to be improvised.

Company shuttles, trade-fair shuttles and recurring runs

The most common commercial case is the trade-fair shuttle: stand staff, clients and material need to get from the airport to the hotel or straight to the grounds on arrival day, and back again on departure day. Those are exactly the two days when the airport rank is busiest and the approach roads are fullest — a shuttle fixed in advance takes the uncertainty out of both.

Recurring runs — project teams, crews, shift workers — follow the same logic over a longer period: fixed pickup points, fixed times, and a price per leg that can be approved in advance. Invoicing is available with VAT shown separately, so the shuttle becomes one line in the travel expenses rather than a pile of receipts.

The hotel shuttle at Frankfurt Airport — and where it stops working

Many hotels close to the airport run their own shuttle between the property and the terminals. For that single leg it is often the simplest option, and where it is included in the room rate, the cheapest. It works as long as three things line up: you are staying at that particular hotel, your departure falls within the shuttle's intervals, and your luggage fits the space a minibus has for every guest leaving at once.

The hotel shuttle stops working the moment one of those fails. A six a.m. flight regularly falls before the first departure; a hotel in the city centre or in Wiesbaden, Mainz or Darmstadt sits outside the radius; and a family with four large cases fills a load space designed for eight guests. In each of those cases a privately booked shuttle is not a comfort upgrade — it is simply the option that works.

In practice this is solved through the address: you book from the hotel address rather than a stop, give the departure time you want, and the car is at the entrance regardless of when the house shuttle next runs. For return journeys with a flight number, the pickup follows the actual landing.

The shuttle between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3

One of the most common shuttle questions about Frankfurt Airport is not about booking anything: how do you get between the terminals? Since Terminal 3 opened in April 2026 and Terminal 2 closed, passenger operations are split across two physically separate terminals — Terminal 1 with concourses A, B, C and Z, and Terminal 3 with concourses H and J.

The two are linked by the SkyLine elevated train; the ride takes only a few minutes and costs nothing. Buses on the forecourt level supplement it. You do not need a booked shuttle for that leg, and we will not sell you one: if all you need is T1 to T3, take the SkyLine and build the walk into your connection time.

The terminal question only matters for pickups — and there it answers itself. You give your flight number when booking, which establishes the arrival terminal and concourse. If the terminal changes at short notice the driver moves to the new meeting point, at no extra cost.

What a private airport shuttle costs

The price rests on two things: the distance between the address and the airport, and the vehicle class. Both are settled before you book — you enter the address, see the price for each class, and then decide. There is no meter running during the ride and no amount that only becomes visible when you get out.

The fixed price covers the journey itself, tolls and road charges along the route, the airport charges for access and short waiting at pickup, and waiting time within the agreed allowance. What changes the price is what you choose: an extra stop, a larger vehicle class, a return leg. Those appear in the booking form before you confirm.

The price is also independent of the time of day. A three a.m. departure costs the same as the same route on a Wednesday afternoon, and there is no surge during trade fairs or on public holidays. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup.

Booking a shuttle: what we need from you

For a journey to the airport: the exact pickup address including the house number, the departure time you want or alternatively your flight's departure time, the number of travellers and the number of bags. If you prefer to work back from the flight, the form proposes a pickup time that already accounts for drive time and the lead time you need at the terminal.

For a pickup at the airport: the flight number. It matters more than the scheduled landing time, because it is what lets the driver track the actual flight status. 60 minutes of waiting are included from the real landing — enough for passport control and a slow baggage belt.

And anything that changes the vehicle choice: child seats, oversized luggage, a pet, a wheelchair, or a second address on the way. Those belong in the booking's notes field rather than in a conversation with the driver at the terminal — known in advance means planned for and covered by the fixed price.
