Route facts

From the edge of the Harz to Frankfurt Airport

Quedlinburg to Frankfurt Airport is about 362 kilometres, and roughly 3 hours 50 minutes are planned for it. The drive begins in the northern Harz foreland, follows the B6n along the edge of the hills towards Goslar and joins the A7 there.

South of Göttingen the route stays on the A7 to Kassel, switches to the A49 with Stadtallendorf as a waypoint, and then runs down the A5 through the Wetterau to the airport. Only the Harz section needs care in winter; after that it is motorway all the way.

Pickup in the World Heritage old town

Your driver collects you from your Quedlinburg address, whether a hotel inside a timber-framed house, a guesthouse below the castle hill or a private address in the Neustadt. Many old-town lanes are narrow, cobbled and partly restricted, so the stopping point is agreed in advance, usually a square or access road a few steps away.

Guests in Thale, Ballenstedt, Harsleben or Ditfurt are picked up on the same run; these places are only minutes apart.

Arriving at the departure terminal

In Frankfurt the car stops on the departures level of Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, according to your airline, and your bags are taken to the entrance so you can go straight to check-in.

Because the drive takes close to four hours, the pickup is scheduled to leave two hours at the terminal, and a little more for intercontinental departures.

Quedlinburg: World Heritage in timber frame

Quedlinburg has just over 23,000 residents and its old town has been UNESCO World Heritage since 1994: more than a thousand half-timbered houses spanning six centuries, plus the castle hill with the collegiate church of St Servatius and its cathedral treasury. Henry I was raised to the East Frankish throne here in 919, and for centuries the town was the seat of an influential abbey for noblewomen.

Around the market square with its town hall and Roland statue stand museums such as the Ständerbau, one of the oldest half-timbered buildings in Germany, and the Lyonel Feininger gallery. Narrow-gauge steam trains of the Selketalbahn also start here for the Harz, one reason Quedlinburg is a destination rather than simply a place to live.

Practical notes for Quedlinburg to FRA

For early Frankfurt departures the transfer usually leaves Quedlinburg in the middle of the night, which works well because the B6n and A7 are then almost empty. In winter the Harz edge can be icy, so we deliberately allow more time for the opening kilometres.

Groups leaving together after a week in the Harz should state their luggage volume; with hiking or ski equipment a van is the right vehicle.

Comparison

Transfer, taxi or train from Quedlinburg?

A metered taxi over 362 kilometres grows more expensive with every lorry queue on the A7, while the transfer is booked at a fixed price. Rail from Quedlinburg starts with a regional service and then at least one change towards Halle, Magdeburg or Braunschweig before long-distance travel even begins, which for a morning flight usually means travelling the day before. Driving yourself costs almost four hours at the wheel plus airport parking for the entire trip. The private transfer picks you up at your old-town door and sets you down at the terminal with no changes in between.

How early should I leave Quedlinburg for Frankfurt Airport?

Leave Quedlinburg about 6 h 35 min before departure for a Schengen flight, or about 7 h 35 min for long-haul. That is 230 minutes of driving, 45 minutes of traffic buffer and 2 or 3 hours at the terminal. The booking form proposes the pickup time for you.

How much is a transfer from Quedlinburg to Frankfurt Airport?

The fixed price for the 362 km route is shown in the booking form before you book and never changes afterwards — regardless of traffic, time of day, weekday or how long the drive actually takes. It depends on the vehicle class and the distance, not on a meter.

How much luggage fits in each vehicle?

Your driver wears a suit, greets you by name and helps with the luggage — in the Business and First Class categories it is a limousine service with a Mercedes E- or S-Class. You hail a taxi at a rank; a chauffeur is booked to the minute in Quedlinburg. That makes the transfer the fixed-price alternative to a Frankfurt Airport taxi for Quedlinburg.

Can I pay the driver by card?

Card payment is accepted directly in the vehicle — as is cash or paying online in advance, and business customers can be invoiced. You receive a receipt with VAT shown either way.

Can I travel with an infant or child seat?

A child seat, booster or infant carrier is selected during booking and fitted by the driver before pickup. State the child's age so the correct size group is installed.

How does free cancellation work?
