Route facts

The route from Bacharach to Frankfurt Airport

Bacharach lies about 77 kilometres from Frankfurt Airport, a drive of roughly an hour. The first stretch belongs entirely to the river: the B 9 hugs the left bank past Niederheimbach and Trechtingshausen towards Bingen.

From Bingen the A 60 takes over, skirting Mainz to the south and joining the A 67 and then the A 3 for the final few minutes to the departures level. The motorway section is the predictable part; whether the trip takes 55 or 70 minutes is decided on those first twenty kilometres along the water.

Pick-up in Bacharach

Your driver collects you at your address – the hotel or holiday flat on Oberstrasse, the guesthouse near the river promenade, the youth hostel up at Stahleck Castle or the campsite below the railway line.

The old-town lanes are narrow and squeeze past the medieval wall towers, so if access is tight we agree a nearby stopping point in advance, usually by the main road or the market square. The driver takes the luggage from wherever you are standing.

Arriving at the terminal

You are dropped at the departures level itself: Terminal 1 for Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partners, Terminal 3 for the airlines handled there. Give us the airline when you book and the driver sorts out the rest.

Coming from a small wine village, that single handover replaces the usual sequence of regional train, platform change and long walk from the railway station to check-in.

Bacharach: a wine village in a UNESCO valley

Fewer than 1,600 people live in Bacharach, yet its skyline shaped a whole era of Rhine romanticism: timber-framed houses such as the Altes Haus, the roofless Gothic shell of the Werner Chapel and, above them, Stahleck Castle, today a youth hostel. Most of the medieval town wall and its towers can still be walked.

The village sits inside the UNESCO Upper Middle Rhine Valley, directly opposite Kaub and the toll castle of Pfalzgrafenstein marooned in midstream. Visitors come for Riesling grown on the steep slate slopes, for the river scenery that Victor Hugo raved about, and for the landing stage used by the Rhine cruise boats.

Tips for this run

Autumn and winter mornings often bring fog to the valley, and overtaking lorries on the B 9 is barely possible. For early departures we therefore build extra time into the pick-up.

On event weekends such as Rhein in Flammen the riverside road is closed in places; mention it when you book and the route is planned around it. If you are travelling home with cases of wine, tell us so the vehicle has the boot space.

Comparison

Transfer, taxi or train from Bacharach?

By rail, Bacharach to the airport means a regional train along the left-bank Rhine line to Mainz, a change onto the S 8 and a walk with your luggage to the regional station – with an hourly service, one missed connection costs an hour. A metered taxi covers the same 77 kilometres but returns empty to the valley afterwards, with no figure agreed beforehand. A rental car puts you on the B 9 yourself, then into a Frankfurt car park and a return desk. The fixed-price transfer starts at your door, the amount is settled before you book, and you stay in the same car until the departures kerb.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does the transfer from Bacharach to Frankfurt Airport take?

The drive from Bacharach to Frankfurt Airport takes about 61 minutes for 77 km in normal traffic. Your driver adds roughly 15 minutes of buffer for rush hour and roadworks.

How early should I leave Bacharach for Frankfurt Airport?

Leave Bacharach about 3 h 16 min before departure for a Schengen flight, or about 4 h 16 min for long-haul. That is 61 minutes of driving, 15 minutes of traffic buffer and 2 or 3 hours at the terminal. The booking form proposes the pickup time for you.

How much is a transfer from Bacharach to Frankfurt Airport?

The fixed price for the 77 km route is shown in the booking form before you book and never changes afterwards — regardless of traffic, time of day, weekday or how long the drive actually takes. It depends on the vehicle class and the distance, not on a meter.

How much luggage fits in each vehicle?

The sedan classes take 2 large suitcases plus 2 cabin bags; the Business Van takes 7 suitcases plus 5 cabin bags for up to 8 passengers. Declare oversized items such as skis, a golf bag or a pushchair when booking so the right class is dispatched.

Is this a taxi or a chauffeur service?

This is a chauffeur service: the journey is booked in advance, the price is fixed before you book and no meter runs. Your driver wears a suit, greets you by name and helps with the luggage — in the Business and First Class categories it is a limousine service with a Mercedes E- or S-Class. You hail a taxi at a rank; a chauffeur is booked to the minute in Bacharach. That makes the transfer the fixed-price alternative to a Frankfurt Airport taxi for Bacharach.

Can I pay the driver by card?

Card payment is accepted directly in the vehicle — as is cash or paying online in advance, and business customers can be invoiced. You receive a receipt with VAT shown either way.

Can I travel with an infant or child seat?

A child seat, booster or infant carrier is selected during booking and fitted by the driver before pickup. State the child's age so the correct size group is installed.

How does free cancellation work?

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the agreed pickup time. After that a cancellation fee may apply; at the pickup address in Bacharach 15 minutes of waiting are included, and each further quarter hour is charged at the rate stated in the terms.
