Leaving the airport, the drive runs on the A 3 and A 67 before joining the A 60, which passes south of Mainz on its way to Bingen. After around 77 kilometres and about an hour you are set down beside the Rhine in Bacharach.

The best part comes last: from Bingen the B 9 follows the river, vineyards climbing away on the left, castles standing on the opposite bank. Trechtingshausen and Niederheimbach slip past shortly before you arrive.
