The A 3 heads south past Düsseldorf, Cologne and Bonn, crosses the Westerwald hills and reaches the Taunus beyond Limburg an der Lahn. At the Frankfurter Kreuz a slip road leads straight onto airport ground, so there is no detour through Frankfurt city centre.
