From Frankfurt Airport to Marksburg

The drive from the terminal to Marksburg covers 88 kilometres in about 76 minutes. It runs west on the A 3 towards Cologne as far as the Limburg an der Lahn area, then drops through the Lahn valley to the Rhine.

From Lahnstein the road follows the right bank upstream to Braubach, and the last few minutes are hairpins up the castle hill. You see the castle long before you reach it, standing some 150 metres above the river.

Meet and greet in arrivals

Your driver is waiting with a name sign in the arrivals hall of Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, right where you come out of customs. We hold your flight number, so a late landing simply shifts the meeting time.

That means no ticket machines and no working out the right-bank Rhine timetable; you walk straight to the car.

Arriving at the castle

We drop you at the castle car park above Braubach, from where a short but steep cobbled path leads to the gate. If you would rather check in first, we take you to your address in the town instead.

Bear in mind that Marksburg is only open on guided tours running at fixed times. Tell us the slot you want and we time the arrival around it.

Why travellers come to Marksburg

No other hill castle on the Middle Rhine survives as completely as Marksburg, because it was never taken or blown up. That is exactly why it conveys daily medieval castle life more convincingly than any ruin.

The tour leads through the kitchen, the great hall, the chapel and the herb garden to the battery, with its view over Braubach and the bend of the Rhine. The German Castles Association has been based here since 1931, and the site forms part of the UNESCO Upper Middle Rhine Valley.

Practical notes for this trip

Sturdy shoes are worth it: the approach and the internal stairs are cobbled, uneven and slippery in the wet. Large suitcases are better left in the car or at a hotel in Braubach.

If Marksburg is only a stop on the way to Koblenz or further along the Rhine, say so when booking. Waiting time can be planned in, whereas extending a journey on the spot is not always possible.

Comparison

Transfer, taxi or train from Marksburg?

By rail and bus, Marksburg means the S-Bahn to Frankfurt central station, a regional train via Koblenz onto the right-bank Rhine line to Braubach, and then a steep walk uphill, which is no fun with luggage. A Frankfurt taxi covers the distance on the meter with no final figure known in advance. A rental car puts you on the motorway and a narrow riverside road immediately after landing, then leaves you hunting for the castle car park. The fixed-price transfer takes you from the name sign in arrivals to the castle gate without a change, at a price fixed when you book.

Timing

When to set off from Marksburg

For the 88 km to Frankfurt your driver allows around 76 minutes of actual driving plus roughly 15 minutes of buffer for rush hour, roadworks and the terminal approach. To make a Schengen flight, that means leaving Marksburg about 3 h 31 min before departure; for long-haul and non-Schengen, about 4 h 31 min.

You do not have to do that arithmetic yourself. Enter your departure time and address and the booking form proposes the pickup time — driving time, buffer and terminal lead are already inside it. If you would rather leave earlier, overwrite the suggestion.

In the other direction the arithmetic disappears anyway: for an airport pickup the time hangs on your flight number, not the clock. Your driver tracks the actual landing, and 60 minutes of waiting from touchdown are included.

What's included

What the price covers on this route

The fixed price for Marksburg – Frankfurt Airport covers all 88 km, plus tolls and road charges en route, the airport access and short-stay parking at pickup. What you pay is settled before you book — there is no meter and no surcharge that only appears as you get out.

The price is independent of the clock as well. The same route costs the same at three in the morning as on a Wednesday afternoon, the same on public holidays as on working days, and there is no demand surcharge during trade fairs. The only things that move it are ones you choose: a stop along the way, a larger vehicle class, or the return leg.

Every passenger is welcome — regardless of background, gender, identity or orientation; our drivers are explicitly LGBTQ+ friendly. Pets travel when the species and size are noted at booking, and guide and assistance dogs with no notice and no surcharge.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does the transfer from Frankfurt Airport to Marksburg take?

The drive from Frankfurt Airport to Marksburg takes about 76 minutes for 88 km in normal traffic. That is measured from the meeting point inside the terminal, not from touchdown.

Where does my driver meet me at Terminal 1 or 3?

The meeting point is the arrivals hall of your terminal — your driver stands just beyond the customs exit holding a name sign and walks you to the vehicle. The terminal follows from the flight number you give when booking, and a diversion to 1 or 3 still gets you found.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Pickup is linked to your flight number and shifts automatically with the actual landing time — at no extra charge. 60 minutes of waiting are included after touchdown so baggage reclaim and passport control are covered.

How much is a transfer from Frankfurt Airport to Marksburg?

The fixed price for the 88 km route is shown in the booking form before you book and never changes afterwards — regardless of traffic, time of day, weekday or how long the drive actually takes. It depends on the vehicle class and the distance, not on a meter.

What does the fixed price include?

It covers the 88 km drive, tolls and road charges en route, airport fees, and 60 minutes of waiting from the landing time. The price only moves for things you choose yourself — a stop along the way, a larger vehicle class or a return leg — and each is shown in the form before you confirm.

Does the ride cost more at night or on public holidays?

The fixed price applies whatever the clock says: Marksburg – Frankfurt Airport costs the same at three in the morning as on a Wednesday afternoon. There is no night, weekend or holiday surcharge, and no demand pricing during trade fairs. Booking and driving run 24/7.

How much luggage fits in each vehicle?

The sedan classes take 4 large suitcases plus 2 cabin bags; the Business Van takes 12 suitcases plus 5 cabin bags for up to 8 passengers. Declare oversized items such as skis, a golf bag or a pushchair when booking so the right class is dispatched.

Is this a taxi or a chauffeur service?

This is a chauffeur service: the journey is booked in advance, the price is fixed before you book and no meter runs. Your driver wears a suit, greets you by name and helps with the luggage — in the Business and First Class categories it is a limousine service with a Mercedes E- or S-Class. You hail a taxi at a rank; a chauffeur waits for you at the terminal with a name sign. That makes the transfer the fixed-price alternative to a Frankfurt Airport taxi for Marksburg.

Transfer or train from Marksburg?

The train is cheaper per person, the transfer per vehicle — with two travellers and luggage the comparison usually flips. The transfer covers the 88 km in about 76 minutes with no changes and ends at your address rather than a station; travelling alone with hand luggage and a good connection, the train is often the better call.

Can I travel with a dog or a cat?

Pets are welcome. State the species and size when booking so the right vehicle class is dispatched for Marksburg — small animals travel in a carrier in the footwell, larger dogs in the load area of a van. Guide dogs and assistance dogs travel in every vehicle, with no advance notice and no surcharge.

Can I pay the driver by card?

Card payment is accepted directly in the vehicle — as is cash or paying online in advance, and business customers can be invoiced. You receive a receipt with VAT shown either way.

Can I travel with an infant or child seat?

A child seat, booster or infant carrier is selected during booking and fitted by the driver before pickup. State the child's age so the correct size group is installed.

Can I book this transfer for someone else?

The booking runs in the passenger's name rather than the payer's — your guest, client or family member is met at the terminal with a name sign. Payment and the receipt stay with you. Add the passenger's flight number and mobile so flight tracking and contact both work.

Who is the service for?

Every passenger is welcome — regardless of background, gender, identity or orientation. Our drivers are explicitly LGBTQ+ friendly: couples, families of every shape, women travelling alone and guests who need assistance are driven with exactly the same matter-of-factness as anyone else. Discretion is part of a chauffeur service in any case.
