The route from Marksburg to Frankfurt Airport

From Marksburg above Braubach to Frankfurt Airport is 88 kilometres and around 76 minutes. The drive starts with the hairpins down from the castle hill to the Rhine, then follows the right-bank riverside road upstream towards Lahnstein.

Through the Lahn valley it reaches the Limburg an der Lahn area and the A 3, whose final stretch runs straight past the airport. The 76 minutes are longer than 88 kilometres normally take, because the opening section is country and riverside road rather than motorway.

Pickup at the castle and in Braubach

The usual meeting point is the car park below the castle, or your address in Braubach, since most visitors stay down in the town. Your driver waits there with the Rhine in view and handles the luggage.

If you want to fit in a last tour first, remember that Marksburg can only be visited on a guided tour. Take the end time of your tour as the pickup time and give it to us when booking.

Arriving at your departure terminal

We set you down at the departures kerb of Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, depending on your airline. Naming the carrier at booking saves you moving between terminals with your bags.

After the quiet run along the right bank of the Rhine, the airport is an abrupt change of scale. Three hours before a long-haul departure and two before a European flight work well on this route.

Marksburg above Braubach

Marksburg is the only hill castle on the Middle Rhine that was never destroyed, which is why it survives complete rather than as a ruin. The German Castles Association has had its seat here since 1931, and the interior can only be seen on a guided tour.

The tour climbs cobbled rider stairs and takes in the great hall, the castle kitchen, the herb garden and the gun battery. Below lies Braubach with its small old town and the Philippsburg, all of it within the UNESCO Upper Middle Rhine Valley.

Travel tips for this route

Factor in the walk back down from the castle to the car park: it is steep and cobbled, and takes longer with wheeled luggage than you expect. Leaving the bags in the car or at your Braubach hotel beforehand is the easier option.

The riverside road fills with day trippers and motorcycle groups at weekends. For early flights we would rather bring the departure forward by fifteen minutes than rush the last stretch.

Transfer, taxi or train from Marksburg?

Public transport makes Marksburg hard work: Braubach station on the right-bank Rhine line, a change in Koblenz or Wiesbaden, then the S-Bahn to the airport, plus the steep climb to the castle on foot. A taxi has to be ordered in advance in Braubach, and 88 metered kilometres remain a gamble. A rental car only pays off if you were keeping it for the whole Rhine trip anyway, airport parking included. The fixed-price transfer collects you below the castle, runs straight through to the terminal kerb and is fully costed the moment you book.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does the transfer from Marksburg to Frankfurt Airport take?

The drive from Marksburg to Frankfurt Airport takes about 76 minutes for 88 km in normal traffic. Your driver adds roughly 15 minutes of buffer for rush hour and roadworks.

How early should I leave Marksburg for Frankfurt Airport?

Leave Marksburg about 3 h 31 min before departure for a Schengen flight, or about 4 h 31 min for long-haul. That is 76 minutes of driving, 15 minutes of traffic buffer and 2 or 3 hours at the terminal. The booking form proposes the pickup time for you.

How much is a transfer from Marksburg to Frankfurt Airport?

The fixed price for the 88 km route is shown in the booking form before you book and never changes afterwards — regardless of traffic, time of day, weekday or how long the drive actually takes. It depends on the vehicle class and the distance, not on a meter.

How much luggage fits in each vehicle?

The sedan classes take 2 large suitcases plus 2 cabin bags; the Business Van takes 7 suitcases plus 5 cabin bags for up to 8 passengers. Declare oversized items such as skis, a golf bag or a pushchair when booking so the right class is dispatched.

Is this a taxi or a chauffeur service?

This is a chauffeur service: the journey is booked in advance, the price is fixed before you book and no meter runs. Your driver wears a suit, greets you by name and helps with the luggage — in the Business and First Class categories it is a limousine service with a Mercedes E- or S-Class. You hail a taxi at a rank; a chauffeur is booked to the minute in Marksburg. That makes the transfer the fixed-price alternative to a Frankfurt Airport taxi for Marksburg.

Can I pay the driver by card?

Card payment is accepted directly in the vehicle — as is cash or paying online in advance, and business customers can be invoiced. You receive a receipt with VAT shown either way.

Can I travel with an infant or child seat?

A child seat, booster or infant carrier is selected during booking and fitted by the driver before pickup. State the child's age so the correct size group is installed.

How does free cancellation work?

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the agreed pickup time. After that a cancellation fee may apply; at the pickup address in Marksburg 15 minutes of waiting are included, and each further quarter hour is charged at the rate stated in the terms.
