It is 84 kilometres and about 67 minutes from the terminal to Oberwesel. The drive runs west on the A 3, reaches the Rhine by way of Wiesbaden, and from Bingen the B 9 follows the river downstream.

That last stretch is one of the finest airport approaches in Germany: the river on one side, slate slopes and vine terraces on the other, Bacharach and the ruined Stahleck castle in between, and then the towers of Oberwesel come into view.
