The route from Frankfurt Airport to Tegernsee
From the terminal the A3 leads through the Spessart, past Würzburg and on to Nuremberg, where the A9 takes over towards Munich. At the Munich ring the car joins the A8 in the direction of Salzburg.
The motorway ends for this trip at Holzkirchen; the B318 then runs down to Gmund and the last kilometres follow the lakeshore. That is 455 km and about four hours forty, with the final half hour spent alongside water and mountains.
Pickup in the arrivals hall
The driver stands beyond baggage reclaim with a name sign. Your flight number is on file, so the pickup shifts automatically if the aircraft lands late.
Coming in from overseas, there is no train to catch and no connection to plan – the car waits regardless of timetables.
Arriving in the Tegernsee valley
The drop-off is the hotel, holiday house or clinic entrance you specify. Addresses in Bad Wiessee, Gmund or Kreuth sit on the same road and are just as easy to reach.
After a long flight the contrast is obvious: instead of changing trains at Munich Hauptbahnhof close to midnight, you stop at the door.
The town of Tegernsee
Tegernsee is a spa town on the eastern shore, centred on the former Benedictine abbey – today a palace with a parish church, a school and the Herzogliches Bräustüberl, where locals and visitors share the same long tables. From the lakeside promenade the view runs across the water to Bad Wiessee.
Around it lies a valley that is simultaneously a hiking and skiing area, a spa region and Munich's favourite weekend destination. Rottach-Egern adjoins it to the south, Kreuth continues towards the Achen Pass, and Gmund closes the northern end of the lake.
Notes for the inbound trip
In winter the cars run on winter tyres and extra time is allowed for the final leg from Holzkirchen when it snows. Nothing else changes; the departure simply moves earlier.
Summer Friday afternoons and the start of school holidays clog the A8 before Munich; arrivals in the morning or late evening flow much better. Please state child seat requirements when booking.

Transfer, taxi or train from Tegernsee?
On public transport, Tegernsee is reachable from the airport only by ICE to Munich and then the Bayerische Oberlandbahn – two changes, all your luggage, and a last service that finishes early in the evening. A rental car means four and a half hours at the wheel straight after an intercontinental flight, the last of them on narrow valley roads. A metered taxi over 455 km is not a serious proposition. The fixed-price transfer drives you to the hotel entrance by the lake for an amount agreed before departure.

How long does the transfer from Frankfurt Airport to Tegernsee take?
The drive from Frankfurt Airport to Tegernsee takes about 279 minutes for 455 km in normal traffic. That is measured from the meeting point inside the terminal, not from touchdown.
Where does my driver meet me at Terminal 1 or 3?
The meeting point is the arrivals hall of your terminal — your driver stands just beyond the customs exit holding a name sign and walks you to the vehicle. The terminal follows from the flight number you give when booking, and a diversion to 1 or 3 still gets you found.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Pickup is linked to your flight number and shifts automatically with the actual landing time — at no extra charge. 60 minutes of waiting are included after touchdown so baggage reclaim and passport control are covered.
How much is a transfer from Frankfurt Airport to Tegernsee?
The fixed price for the 455 km route is shown in the booking form before you book and never changes afterwards — regardless of traffic, time of day, weekday or how long the drive actually takes. It depends on the vehicle class and the distance, not on a meter.
How much luggage fits in each vehicle?
The sedan classes take 2 large suitcases plus 2 cabin bags; the Business Van takes 7 suitcases plus 5 cabin bags for up to 8 passengers. Declare oversized items such as skis, a golf bag or a pushchair when booking so the right class is dispatched.
Is this a taxi or a chauffeur service?
This is a chauffeur service: the journey is booked in advance, the price is fixed before you book and no meter runs. Your driver wears a suit, greets you by name and helps with the luggage — in the Business and First Class categories it is a limousine service with a Mercedes E- or S-Class. You hail a taxi at a rank; a chauffeur waits for you at the terminal with a name sign. That makes the transfer the fixed-price alternative to a Frankfurt Airport taxi for Tegernsee.
Can I pay the driver by card?
Card payment is accepted directly in the vehicle — as is cash or paying online in advance, and business customers can be invoiced. You receive a receipt with VAT shown either way.
Can I travel with an infant or child seat?
A child seat, booster or infant carrier is selected during booking and fitted by the driver before pickup. State the child's age so the correct size group is installed.
