The route: Linz to Frankfurt Airport

Linz sits 562 kilometres from Frankfurt Airport, a drive of roughly five hours and 40 minutes. The car leaves town on the A 7 Mühlkreis motorway, takes the A 25 towards Wels and switches there onto the A 8 Innkreis motorway, which runs to the border at Suben.

On the German side, past Passau, the A 3 takes over and carries you through Regensburg, Nuremberg and Würzburg to the Rhine-Main area with barely a junction to think about. The DE-AT crossing is a straight drive-through; the Austrian vignette and toll sections are already covered by the fixed price.

Pickup in Linz and the surrounding towns

We collect you at the address you give us: a hotel on the Hauptplatz, an apartment in Urfahr, a works address by the Danube port, or a house in Leonding, Puchenau or Traun. The driver is at the door at the agreed time and loads the luggage himself.

Since a mid-morning departure from Frankfurt means leaving before dawn, we work the pickup time backwards from your check-in deadline. Night runs and very early starts carry no surcharge.

Arriving at the departure terminal

The car stops at the departures level itself - Terminal 1 for Lufthansa and Star Alliance, Terminal 3 for a share of the other airlines. Name your carrier when you book so we head for the right building.

After nearly six hours of motorway you step out directly in front of check-in, with no change in Passau or Nuremberg and no cases to lift across platform gaps.

About Linz

Linz is the capital of Upper Austria and sits on both banks of the Danube: to the south the broad Hauptplatz with its baroque frontages and Trinity Column, to the north the district of Urfahr, above which the Pöstlingberg rises with its pilgrimage church and mountain railway.

The city runs on an unusual double identity - heavy industry around the voestalpine steelworks and the Danube port on one side, the Ars Electronica Center, the Lentos art museum and the Brucknerhaus on the other. Linz was European Capital of Culture in 2009 and now holds the UNESCO title City of Media Arts.

What to know before this trip

Austrian motorways require a vignette while German ones do not; the driver handles that and nothing is billed afterwards. Keep your ID card or passport within reach despite Schengen, because checks at the Suben crossing are frequent.

The stretch of the A 3 between Regensburg and Nuremberg suffers persistently from roadworks and freight traffic, so we build in buffer time and usually take the break near Nuremberg or Würzburg.

Transfer, taxi or train from Linz?

There is no direct rail connection from Linz to Frankfurt Airport, and with luggage every change in Passau, Nuremberg or at the Fernbahnhof puts your connection at risk. A taxi on a cross-border run of this length bills by distance and time with no binding total. A rental car means a one-way international hire with the conditions that come with it, plus the vignette, refuelling and a drop-off in the airport car park. The fixed-price transfer settles the border, the tolls and the routing in one go: you get in at Linz and get out at the terminal.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does the transfer from Linz to Frankfurt Airport take?

The drive from Linz to Frankfurt Airport takes about 340 minutes for 562 km in normal traffic. Your driver adds roughly 70 minutes of buffer for rush hour and roadworks.

How early should I leave Linz for Frankfurt Airport?

Leave Linz about 8 h 50 min before departure for a Schengen flight, or about 9 h 50 min for long-haul. That is 340 minutes of driving, 70 minutes of traffic buffer and 2 or 3 hours at the terminal. The booking form proposes the pickup time for you.

How much is a transfer from Linz to Frankfurt Airport?

The fixed price for the 562 km route is shown in the booking form before you book and never changes afterwards — regardless of traffic, time of day, weekday or how long the drive actually takes. It depends on the vehicle class and the distance, not on a meter.

Do you drive across the border to Linz?

Cross-border journeys are part of the standard service — Linz is served at a fixed price exactly like German destinations, and we cover Germany plus 10 neighbouring countries in total. Tolls, road vignettes and border formalities are included in the price.

How much luggage fits in each vehicle?

The sedan classes take 2 large suitcases plus 2 cabin bags; the Business Van takes 7 suitcases plus 5 cabin bags for up to 8 passengers. Declare oversized items such as skis, a golf bag or a pushchair when booking so the right class is dispatched.

Is this a taxi or a chauffeur service?

This is a chauffeur service: the journey is booked in advance, the price is fixed before you book and no meter runs. Your driver wears a suit, greets you by name and helps with the luggage — in the Business and First Class categories it is a limousine service with a Mercedes E- or S-Class. You hail a taxi at a rank; a chauffeur is booked to the minute in Linz. That makes the transfer the fixed-price alternative to a Frankfurt Airport taxi for Linz.

Can I pay the driver by card?

Card payment is accepted directly in the vehicle — as is cash or paying online in advance, and business customers can be invoiced. You receive a receipt with VAT shown either way.

Can I travel with an infant or child seat?

A child seat, booster or infant carrier is selected during booking and fitted by the driver before pickup. State the child's age so the correct size group is installed.

How does free cancellation work?

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the agreed pickup time. After that a cancellation fee may apply; at the pickup address in Linz 15 minutes of waiting are included, and each further quarter hour is charged at the rate stated in the terms.
