Steglitz is one of the more populous localities in Berlin's south-west, home to more than 76,000 people and built around a genuine centre of its own. Schloßstraße is among the busiest shopping streets in the city, overlooked by the unmistakable Bierpinsel tower restaurant and flanked by the Titania-Palast.

Around it lies a leafy district of turn-of-the-century apartment blocks — the Botanical Garden over in Dahlem, the Steglitz town hall, villa colonies towards Lichterfelde. Residents are not far from Berlin's rail links, but with luggage that is still one change too many.

Practical notes

Schloßstraße itself has stopping restrictions and heavy delivery traffic, so we agree a calmer pickup point in a side street when the main road will not work.
