Trebur: no station of its own, and the southern edge of the taxi zone
Trebur was once among the most important places in the empire: between 829 and 1077, 57 royal visits, several imperial assemblies and a synod are documented here. Today the municipality in the Hessian Ried is chiefly one thing — a place with no station of its own. Anyone calling a taxi in Trebur or booking an airport transfer therefore faces a simpler decision than neighbours on the railway line: the question is not train or car, only how the car is arranged.
Four districts in the Ried
Trebur has 12,702 residents (as of 31 December 2025) and lies in the Groß-Gerau district, in the Hessian Ried west of the motorway corridors and east of the Rhine. Since 1 January 1977 the municipality has consisted of four parts: the core village plus Astheim, Geinsheim with Kornsand, and Hessenaue. Ginsheim-Gustavsburg and Rüsselsheim am Main adjoin to the north.
Its position is remarkably even-handed: Mainz, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt and Darmstadt are each roughly 20 to 30 kilometres away. Trebur is not on the edge of anything so much as equidistant from everything — which in daily life means none of those cities serves it with public transport the way a suburb would be served.

What a missing station means in practice
The Ried railway runs east of the municipality and the nearest station is Nauheim. Every train journey therefore starts with a journey — and one trip with luggage becomes two. For an airport run that turns on a fixed time, that shifts the calculation considerably: the connection to the station has to work, then the train, then possibly a change. Each step is reliable on its own, but together they form a chain only as strong as its weakest link.
By road, the state roads L3040 (west to east) and L3012 (north to south) cross the municipality. The airport is 22 kilometres away, around 21 minutes of driving — a calm route without the bottlenecks that form further north along the Main.
One feature concerns the Geinsheim district: a Rhine ferry operates at Kornsand, crossing to the left bank and the B9 and B420. For everyday trips that is a useful shortcut. For an early flight it is not: a ferry runs to operating hours, not to a departure schedule — anyone leaving at four in the morning is better planning via the fixed land route.
On the southern edge of the mandatory taxi zone
When Frankfurt’s taxi tariff names the southern limit of where it applies, it names Goddelau-Erfelden — two Riedstadt districts lying immediately south of Trebur. The municipality is still inside, but closer to that line than anywhere else in this series.
For the run to the airport that has no consequence; it heads north. It matters for everything going the other way. Towards Darmstadt, the Bergstraße or deeper into the Ried, the zone of officially fixed prices ends and the one where prices must be negotiated before departure begins. A pre-booked transfer simply ignores the line: the route is priced as a whole, whichever side it ends on. The Ried, farming and a telescope
The Hessian Ried is farming country, and that sets the rhythm of the year: seasonal and harvest periods bring traffic that keeps no office hours. Anyone heading to the airport early in those weeks shares the road with vehicles working to entirely different schedules.
Two things stand outside that pattern. The first is the history: at the royal palace of Tribur, Henry IV was elected king in 1053 and married in 1066, and the princes’ assembly of 1076 forced him to settle his conflict with the pope — the immediate cause of the journey to Canossa. The second is more recent: the T1T telescope, with a 1.20-metre mirror, is among the largest publicly accessible telescopes in Europe, and an asteroid discovered in 2002 carries the village’s name.
Who travels to the airport from here
- Holiday travellers on early flights, for whom a chain of feeder trip, train and change in the dark is not a practical option.
- Families with luggage, where the number of cases and child seats decides the vehicle class — and should be settled in advance.
- Airport and logistics workers, whose shifts begin or end outside the public-transport timetable.
- Older travellers, for whom the walk from the front door to the departures level is the real difference, not the price.

For the outbound leg, the exact address matters. The Ried has village edges, outlying farms and streets in the smaller districts that are not equally well mapped everywhere — so the house number, and where relevant the farm entrance or district name, belong in the booking.
