From Frankfurt Airport to Burg Rheinfels
The drive from the terminal to Burg Rheinfels covers 104 kilometres in roughly 72 minutes. It runs west on the A 3, crosses the Rhine at Bingen and follows the A 61 over the Hunsrück.
Just before Sankt Goar it winds down into the valley and then climbs the Schlossberg road back up to the castle. Looking across the town, the ruin is recognisable from far off as a long line of wall along the hillside.
Meet and greet in arrivals
Your driver is waiting with a name sign in the arrivals hall of Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, immediately outside the baggage-hall exit. Delays are accounted for, because we track the flight number.
That leaves you nothing to arrange, neither tickets nor the connections of the left-bank Rhine line; you simply walk to the car.
Arriving at the castle
We drive up to the Schlossberg access road, where the castle museum and hotel are located. If you would rather check in down in the town first, we set you down at your Sankt Goar address instead.
The last few metres are narrow and steep, so with a larger vehicle we stop just below. The driver brings the luggage up to the entrance.
Why Burg Rheinfels is worth it
Rheinfels was once the most powerful stronghold on the Middle Rhine. The counts of Katzenelnbogen began building in 1245, the fortress survived a siege by the Rhenish towns that lasted more than a year, and it was only destroyed by explosives in 1797.
Today it is the largest castle ruin in the valley: broad courtyards, casemates and a network of underground mine tunnels that visitors explore by torchlight. From the viewpoints you look over Sankt Goar to Katz Castle and downstream towards the Loreley.
Practical notes for this trip
Sturdy shoes are essential on the site, and the tunnels are low, damp and dark, so pack a torch in your hand luggage. Large suitcases are better left in the car or at a hotel down in the town.
The castle keeps seasonal opening hours and closes earlier in winter. Tell us when you plan to visit and we time the arrival to match, rather than dropping you at a closed gate.

Transfer, taxi or train from Burg Rheinfels?
By rail and bus, Burg Rheinfels means the S-Bahn to Mainz, a regional train to Sankt Goar on the Middle Rhine and then the steep climb up the Schlossberg, hardly realistic with suitcases after a long-haul flight. A Frankfurt taxi runs the route on the meter with no binding total. A rental car adds hairpin bends immediately after landing and very limited parking at the castle. The fixed-price transfer takes you from the name sign in arrivals to the castle approach without a change, at a price already fixed when you book.

How long does the transfer from Frankfurt Airport to Burg Rheinfels take?
The drive from Frankfurt Airport to Burg Rheinfels takes about 72 minutes for 104 km in normal traffic. That is measured from the meeting point inside the terminal, not from touchdown.
Where does my driver meet me at Terminal 1 or 3?
The meeting point is the arrivals hall of your terminal — your driver stands just beyond the customs exit holding a name sign and walks you to the vehicle. The terminal follows from the flight number you give when booking, and a diversion to 1 or 3 still gets you found.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Pickup is linked to your flight number and shifts automatically with the actual landing time — at no extra charge. 60 minutes of waiting are included after touchdown so baggage reclaim and passport control are covered.
How much is a transfer from Frankfurt Airport to Burg Rheinfels?
The fixed price for the 104 km route is shown in the booking form before you book and never changes afterwards — regardless of traffic, time of day, weekday or how long the drive actually takes. It depends on the vehicle class and the distance, not on a meter.
How much luggage fits in each vehicle?
The sedan classes take 2 large suitcases plus 2 cabin bags; the Business Van takes 7 suitcases plus 5 cabin bags for up to 8 passengers. Declare oversized items such as skis, a golf bag or a pushchair when booking so the right class is dispatched.
Is this a taxi or a chauffeur service?
This is a chauffeur service: the journey is booked in advance, the price is fixed before you book and no meter runs. Your driver wears a suit, greets you by name and helps with the luggage — in the Business and First Class categories it is a limousine service with a Mercedes E- or S-Class. You hail a taxi at a rank; a chauffeur waits for you at the terminal with a name sign. That makes the transfer the fixed-price alternative to a Frankfurt Airport taxi for Burg Rheinfels.
Can I pay the driver by card?
Card payment is accepted directly in the vehicle — as is cash or paying online in advance, and business customers can be invoiced. You receive a receipt with VAT shown either way.
Can I travel with an infant or child seat?
A child seat, booster or infant carrier is selected during booking and fitted by the driver before pickup. State the child's age so the correct size group is installed.
