Route facts

The route from Frankfurt Airport to Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof

About 215 km and a good two hours twenty separate FRA from Düsseldorf's main station. The drive heads north-west on the A 3 past Limburg an der Lahn, Bonn and Cologne as far as the Hilden interchange.

There the car switches to the A 46 and crosses the Rhine into the city centre. The last few minutes run through Friedrichstadt to the station forecourt.

Meet and greet in FRA arrivals

Your driver waits inside the arrivals hall of your terminal holding a sign with your name. Landing times are monitored, so the meeting point moves by itself if the flight is late.

After baggage reclaim you walk to the car together and set off onto the A 3 without stopping. Anyone who has done this leg three times with changes will notice the difference immediately.

Arriving at the main station

You are dropped in the stopping zone on Konrad-Adenauer-Platz, right at the main entrance, a few steps from the long-distance platforms, the S-Bahn level and the taxi rank. On request the car uses the eastern side instead.

Often, though, the station is only the address given rather than the real destination: hotels in Friedrichstadt, offices on the Königsallee and the exhibition grounds in Stockum are minutes away and can be driven to directly.

Düsseldorf from the main station

The Hauptbahnhof is the transport hub of the state capital: ICE and IC services above, S-Bahn, U-Bahn and the Wehrhahn line crossing below, and trams serving the forecourt. That makes it the most practical handover point for anyone arriving from Frankfurt and continuing across the Rhineland.

The Japanese quarter starts right outside on Immermannstraße with its restaurants and shops, and a quarter of an hour west brings you to the Königsallee, the old town, and the Rhine with its television tower and MedienHafen.

Travel tips for the FRA to Düsseldorf Hbf run

Afternoons and early evenings the A 3 around Cologne and Leverkusen regularly grinds down, so real journey times can exceed the planned two hours twenty. The fixed price does not change with them.

If you have a connecting train to catch at the Hauptbahnhof, give its departure time when booking. We then plan the drive against that time rather than only against your landing.

Comparison

Transfer, taxi or train from Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof?

Getting from Frankfurt Airport to Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof by rail means finding the long-distance station, boarding an ICE, hunting for luggage space in a full carriage, and improvising if evening cancellations stack up. A metered taxi charges every minute of the 215 km, and a rental car puts you on the A 3 yourself after a flight and then into a city-centre car park. The fixed-price transfer covers it in one ride from the terminal to the station forecourt – or straight on to your hotel, office or the exhibition grounds.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does the transfer from Frankfurt Airport to Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof take?

The drive from Frankfurt Airport to Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof takes about 144 minutes for 215 km in normal traffic. That is measured from the meeting point inside the terminal, not from touchdown.

Where does my driver meet me at Terminal 1 or 3?

The meeting point is the arrivals hall of your terminal — your driver stands just beyond the customs exit holding a name sign and walks you to the vehicle. The terminal follows from the flight number you give when booking, and a diversion to 1 or 3 still gets you found.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Pickup is linked to your flight number and shifts automatically with the actual landing time — at no extra charge. 60 minutes of waiting are included after touchdown so baggage reclaim and passport control are covered.

How much is a transfer from Frankfurt Airport to Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof?

The fixed price for the 215 km route is shown in the booking form before you book and never changes afterwards — regardless of traffic, time of day, weekday or how long the drive actually takes. It depends on the vehicle class and the distance, not on a meter.

How much luggage fits in each vehicle?

The sedan classes take 2 large suitcases plus 2 cabin bags; the Business Van takes 7 suitcases plus 5 cabin bags for up to 8 passengers. Declare oversized items such as skis, a golf bag or a pushchair when booking so the right class is dispatched.

Is this a taxi or a chauffeur service?

This is a chauffeur service: the journey is booked in advance, the price is fixed before you book and no meter runs. Your driver wears a suit, greets you by name and helps with the luggage — in the Business and First Class categories it is a limousine service with a Mercedes E- or S-Class. You hail a taxi at a rank; a chauffeur waits for you at the terminal with a name sign. That makes the transfer the fixed-price alternative to a Frankfurt Airport taxi for Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof.

Can I pay the driver by card?

Card payment is accepted directly in the vehicle — as is cash or paying online in advance, and business customers can be invoiced. You receive a receipt with VAT shown either way.

Can I travel with an infant or child seat?

A child seat, booster or infant carrier is selected during booking and fitted by the driver before pickup. State the child's age so the correct size group is installed.
