The route: Neuschwanstein Castle to Frankfurt Airport
From Hohenschwangau at the foot of the castle to Frankfurt Airport is 421 kilometres, a drive of about 4 hours 20 minutes. The first leg follows the B17, the Romantic Road, up to Füssen and onto the A7, whose southern terminus lies here in the Ostallgäu.
The A7 then runs north via Kempten, Memmingen and Ulm towards Würzburg, where the A3 takes over through the Spessart into the Rhine-Main area. Almost the entire route is motorway; only the opening kilometres through the Königswinkel are country road.
Pickup below the castle
Because there is no vehicle access at the castle itself, we collect you down in Hohenschwangau — at the ticket centre on Alpseestraße, at your hotel in the village, or at one of the car parks P1 to P4. Name the meeting point when booking and the car waits exactly there.
Allow generous time for the descent: walking down takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes, and the horse carriages and shuttle bus run to their own rhythm. We set the pickup time around your tour slot accordingly.
Arriving at the terminal in Frankfurt
In Frankfurt the car stops on the departures level of Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, matching your airline. Your luggage is unloaded and the driver points you towards check-in.
If you are flying on the same day as your castle visit, keep the buffer generous — tours start only at the booked time and cannot be brought forward.
About Neuschwanstein Castle
Neuschwanstein was built for King Ludwig II above the Pöllat gorge and is now one of the most visited buildings in Europe. The famous view of its towers is from the Marienbrücke, while opposite stands the yellow Hohenschwangau Castle where Ludwig spent his childhood.
The Königswinkel corner of the Ostallgäu district takes in Schwangau, the old town of Füssen, the Alpsee and the Forggensee near Rieden as well as the castle itself. A few kilometres further on, Tyrol begins at Breitenwang.
Practical notes for this transfer
In high season and at weekends traffic in Hohenschwangau backs up at the car park entrances, so allow 15 to 20 extra minutes before the car clears the village.
Provide your flight number and departure time at booking so we can plan backwards. The price is fixed from the moment you book, even if the Königswinkel or the A7 runs slowly.

Transfer, taxi or train from Neuschwanstein Castle?
By public transport, leaving the castle means the bus to Füssen, a regional train to Munich or Augsburg, and only then an ICE to the airport — three changes with luggage. A metered taxi runs the full 421 kilometres on the meter and is priced to match. A rental car has to be handed back at Frankfurt's rental centre, costing extra time on the day you fly. The fixed-price transfer picks you up in Hohenschwangau and delivers you to the departures level without a single change.
