Route facts

The route from Cottbus to Frankfurt Airport

Cottbus lies roughly 575 kilometres from Frankfurt Airport, a drive we plan at around six hours. The car heads west out of Lusatia, picks up the A 4 near Dresden and follows it through Chemnitz and on past Erfurt and Eisenach across Thuringia.

At the Kirchheim interchange the route swings south onto the A 5, running through northern Hesse and the Wetterau to the Frankfurter Kreuz and the airport itself. There is no border on this one, but the scenery changes completely: Lusatian pine forest, the Elbe valley, the Thuringian basin and finally the Rhine-Main conurbation.

Pick-up in Cottbus

We collect you at the address you give us – the city centre near the Altmarkt, Sandow, Ströbitz or Sachsendorf, and equally in Kolkwitz or Teichland. Because the run is long, morning flights usually mean a departure in the middle of the night, which at least leaves the A 4 pleasantly empty.

The driver pulls up a few minutes before the agreed time and loads the luggage. Nobody else is picked up along the way, and the fixed price is settled at the moment you book.

Arriving at the departure terminal

In Frankfurt the drive ends at Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, depending on your airline, right at the departures drop-off. Between your Cottbus front door and the check-in desk there is exactly one change of vehicle: none.

For long-haul departures we aim to arrive with a clear buffer before the counters close; for European flights the timing is slightly later. Send us the flight number and departure time and we calculate the Cottbus pick-up backwards from it.

Cottbus – a bilingual city in Lusatia

Cottbus is Brandenburg's second city and the centre of Lower Lusatia, and the town signs carry the Lower Sorbian name Chóśebuz alongside the German one. The Art Nouveau state theatre and the baroque frontages of the Altmarkt define the centre, while Branitz Park on the eastern edge holds the famous earth pyramids laid out by Prince Pückler.

The surrounding region is visibly changing: a former open-cast mine north of the city is filling to become the Cottbuser Ostsee, the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg brings students and research projects in, and the Spreewald with its canals and punts starts just to the north. People fly out of here for work, for family visits and for long-haul trips that Berlin does not serve directly.

Practical notes for this journey

The A 4 between Dresden and Erfurt carries several long-running roadworks and the often sluggish stretch around the Hermsdorf interchange, so our journey time is calculated realistically rather than optimistically. The driver's short break normally falls in the Thuringian section.

In winter the higher ground in the Vogtland and Thuringia is where delays start; if snow is forecast we prefer to leave half an hour earlier. Please flag child seats or a larger vehicle when you book.

Comparison

Transfer, taxi or train from Cottbus?

For Frankfurt flights, Cottbus sits awkwardly across the rail network: trains almost always route via Berlin or Leipzig with a change and your bags across the platform, and the first service of the day often will not make an early departure. A metered taxi over 575 kilometres gives you no predictable total, and a rental car means a one-way hire, six hours of your own driving and airport parking at the far end. The fixed-price transfer simply leaves when your flight requires it – three in the morning included.

Timing

When to set off from Cottbus

For the 575 km to Frankfurt your driver allows around 364 minutes of actual driving plus roughly 75 minutes of buffer for rush hour, roadworks and the terminal approach. To make a Schengen flight, that means leaving Cottbus about 9 h 19 min before departure; for long-haul and non-Schengen, about 10 h 19 min.

You do not have to do that arithmetic yourself. Enter your departure time and address and the booking form proposes the pickup time — driving time, buffer and terminal lead are already inside it. If you would rather leave earlier, overwrite the suggestion.

In the other direction the arithmetic disappears anyway: for an airport pickup the time hangs on your flight number, not the clock. Your driver tracks the actual landing, and 60 minutes of waiting from touchdown are included.

What's included

What the price covers on this route

The fixed price for Cottbus – Frankfurt Airport covers all 575 km, plus tolls and road charges en route, the airport access and short-stay parking at pickup. What you pay is settled before you book — there is no meter and no surcharge that only appears as you get out.

The price is independent of the clock as well. The same route costs the same at three in the morning as on a Wednesday afternoon, the same on public holidays as on working days, and there is no demand surcharge during trade fairs. The only things that move it are ones you choose: a stop along the way, a larger vehicle class, or the return leg.

Every passenger is welcome — regardless of background, gender, identity or orientation; our drivers are explicitly LGBTQ+ friendly. Pets travel when the species and size are noted at booking, and guide and assistance dogs with no notice and no surcharge.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does the transfer from Cottbus to Frankfurt Airport take?

The drive from Cottbus to Frankfurt Airport takes about 364 minutes for 575 km in normal traffic. Your driver adds roughly 75 minutes of buffer for rush hour and roadworks.

How early should I leave Cottbus for Frankfurt Airport?

Leave Cottbus about 9 h 19 min before departure for a Schengen flight, or about 10 h 19 min for long-haul. That is 364 minutes of driving, 75 minutes of traffic buffer and 2 or 3 hours at the terminal. The booking form proposes the pickup time for you.

How much is a transfer from Cottbus to Frankfurt Airport?

The fixed price for the 575 km route is shown in the booking form before you book and never changes afterwards — regardless of traffic, time of day, weekday or how long the drive actually takes. It depends on the vehicle class and the distance, not on a meter.

What does the fixed price include?

It covers the 575 km drive, tolls and road charges en route, airport fees, and 15 minutes of waiting at the pickup address in Cottbus. The price only moves for things you choose yourself — a stop along the way, a larger vehicle class or a return leg — and each is shown in the form before you confirm.

Does the ride cost more at night or on public holidays?

The fixed price applies whatever the clock says: Cottbus – Frankfurt Airport costs the same at three in the morning as on a Wednesday afternoon. There is no night, weekend or holiday surcharge, and no demand pricing during trade fairs. Booking and driving run 24/7.

How much luggage fits in each vehicle?

The sedan classes take 4 large suitcases plus 2 cabin bags; the Business Van takes 12 suitcases plus 5 cabin bags for up to 8 passengers. Declare oversized items such as skis, a golf bag or a pushchair when booking so the right class is dispatched.

Is this a taxi or a chauffeur service?

This is a chauffeur service: the journey is booked in advance, the price is fixed before you book and no meter runs. Your driver wears a suit, greets you by name and helps with the luggage — in the Business and First Class categories it is a limousine service with a Mercedes E- or S-Class. You hail a taxi at a rank; a chauffeur is booked to the minute in Cottbus. That makes the transfer the fixed-price alternative to a Frankfurt Airport taxi for Cottbus.

Transfer or train from Cottbus?

The train is cheaper per person, the transfer per vehicle — with two travellers and luggage the comparison usually flips. The transfer covers the 575 km in about 364 minutes with no changes and ends at your address rather than a station; travelling alone with hand luggage and a good connection, the train is often the better call.

Can I travel with a dog or a cat?

Pets are welcome. State the species and size when booking so the right vehicle class is dispatched for Cottbus — small animals travel in a carrier in the footwell, larger dogs in the load area of a van. Guide dogs and assistance dogs travel in every vehicle, with no advance notice and no surcharge.

Can I pay the driver by card?

Card payment is accepted directly in the vehicle — as is cash or paying online in advance, and business customers can be invoiced. You receive a receipt with VAT shown either way.

Can I travel with an infant or child seat?

A child seat, booster or infant carrier is selected during booking and fitted by the driver before pickup. State the child's age so the correct size group is installed.

Can I book this transfer for someone else?

The booking runs in the passenger's name rather than the payer's — your guest, client or family member is collected at the given address in Cottbus. Payment and the receipt stay with you. Add the passenger's flight number and mobile so flight tracking and contact both work.

Who is the service for?

Every passenger is welcome — regardless of background, gender, identity or orientation. Our drivers are explicitly LGBTQ+ friendly: couples, families of every shape, women travelling alone and guests who need assistance are driven with exactly the same matter-of-factness as anyone else. Discretion is part of a chauffeur service in any case.

How does free cancellation work?

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the agreed pickup time. After that a cancellation fee may apply; at the pickup address in Cottbus 15 minutes of waiting are included, and each further quarter hour is charged at the rate stated in the terms.
