At the Hermsdorfer Kreuz interchange the route switches to the A 4 towards Erfurt and, at the Kirchheimer Dreieck, onto the A 5, which runs through Bad Hersfeld and Gießen straight to the Frankfurter Kreuz and the airport approach.
